Is it true that Kubuntu will drop Adept package manager and replace it with PackageKit? (This is concerning the KDE 4 version, of course.) http://web.mornfall.net/adept.html One of the developers (Petr Ročkai) wrote on his blog a good a month ago- I've only just noticed it now- that he was discontinuing development "since Kubuntu will be changing its default manager to KPackageKit." http://www.packagekit.org/ I never really know about these kinds of things, so I just wanted to see if any one else has heard about it, and also if anyone has used KPackageKit and how it compares to Adept beta 4 and Synaptic? Ubuntu= Linux Mint = Karmic Koala 9.10
I think Ubuntu is planning a full switch to PackageKit on all its official versions for 9.10.

The most I could tell is that there were some missing features and that search sometimes didn't bring all the results up, but for the most part, I would have said that the new Adept was shaping up nicely and that it was on the way to being a good improvement over the KDE 3 version. I wonder if the aim is to create some similarity between the two versions. If so, I think that's a good idea!
The kde3 version i started to like because it did a search on the fly, but the kde4 version i never liked could not work with it and switched to synaptic because it found more applications then adept kde4. Hope they make packagekit is exact the same in kde4 our in gnome only with another jacket on a qt our a gtk one. Because in the screen shot i see already different things. like the left site of the screen shot's gnome has application collections but kde doesn't have it.

Yeah, it would be good if they made the appearance of each version uniform. The screenshot for the version for GNOME that you just posted looked very good. I hope that the developers follow the same design for the KDE version. Having a program type column- much like is find in Adept's add/remove program or Synaptic's- would be very good. I presume the screenshots are just a work in progress though...
Yeh but why drop a great app like synaptic? Adept I can understand as I never liked it, but Synaptic I always liked...

Synaptic is a very good software.I am yet to see something coming near to it in usability.
