    Can GIMP import PSD

    Hi all,

My question is: can GIMP import PSD format and be? If yes, how? If no, is there any other tool to do so expect photoshop?

    Thanks to all.

If someone asks you to sudo rm -rf anything, don't do it, and don't run any command with rm in it unless you know exactly what you're doing. See here for more info

Gimp can open PSD if file is in RGB. File in Gimp will loose text information, layers blending, layers folders and all features which aren't supported with Gimp.

    Thanks everyone.

Now another question. Does PhotoShop exports in GIMP format?

    Thanks!

A proprietary software company supporting an open format?!! I guess if that were to happen, the Universe would collapse unto itself!!

The universe tends towards more entropy. And the chaos of closed formats = teh entropy. Open source formats would tend towards less entropy, hence contrary to the nature of the universe...

    Re: Can GIMP import PSD

Gimp can import PSD files, losing the following:
    1. Layer comps
    2. Layer effects (shadow, glow, etc)
    3. Vector objects
    4. Layer masks

So, if you have a web design in PSD, you can almost 100% be sure that the imported file will not be as intended.

Photoshop exports to a number of intermediary formats, reducing the functionality and rasterizing the effects, where possible.
