    Re: DVD Drive Not Working

Have you done a search on "DVD not working" or "DVD doesn't play" or other similar variants. Many suggestions abound that I'm guessing people don't want to type out again. Nothing against you, just the way it is I would guess.

I'm in your boat in that I have a DVD problem, unfortunately, I haven't found a solution yet but I did manage to find many threads (and even start one of my own since my situation appeared to be different than others.) It would appear I was correct as nothing I have tried has work thus far.

But here are some threads that I would suggest looking into:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=807834
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=806861
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=568929

Also search for a specific poster by the name of MC4MAN. His solutions have worked for various people.
    http://ubuntuforums.org/search.php?searchid=41950038

    Google search reveals:
    http://tobias.rautenkranz.ch/libdvdread_ifo.html

    etc. etc.

I would also suggest adding more information to your post indicating what you've tried, log messages, error messages, etc. That may help you get a response to your situation specifically.

Question Re: DVD Drive Not Working

    thx, masonfoley!

But my problem, too is kinda different - I cant seem to read ANY DVD OR CD except CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, not just movie DVDS!!

I think it happened when i changed the partitions a lil bit - moved swap to the left(or right) and resized the 24 GB / to 96 GB. Cud this have been the problem? And can i fix it

    Re: DVD Drive Not Working

I know that this topic is probably dead but I have the same problem. I have Ubuntu 11.04 and my DVD drive is not recognized by the system. It must be a problem with the drivers because I had also problems installing this version. In fact I could not install directly this version but upgrade from 10.04 LTS.

    Thanks

    Re: DVD Drive Not Working

I have the same problem. Since I upgraded to 11.04, the DVDs are undetected.

    Any solution to this issue??
I already googled it and found nothing

Thumbs down Re: DVD Drive Not Working

Try changing your SATA mode from IDE to AHCI or vice versa in the bios. More information can be found here.

    Re: DVD Drive Not Working

I found a neat solution to this problem after a couple of years without CD/DVD being recognised, I did another search and this one worked for me,

Go to Synaptic Package Manager, type in cdde, mark it for installation, and click 'apply' then when you put in a 'branded' disc, it is recognised !

    Good luck !
