I have three: My main one (for school and stuff) has Ubuntu Jaunty on it, a laptop with Jaunty too, and an ancient old hand-me-down that is my "learning Linux" machine that I had Slax on, then Crunchbang (http://crunchbanglinux.org). That's the one I can mess up or whatever, so I play with something 'til it breaks, then reload and go again!

Family has two more desktops and two laptops, all with WinXP except the newest desktop which has Vista.

They thought I had "fixed" the hand-me-down and were congratulating me on how well and how fast it was running... they thought I had repaired the old WinXP one! They could hardly believe it when I told them they were using Linux! That's the "Crunchbang with LXDE on top" one.

If you're ever looking for a project, try taking a way outpowered system and putting win 3.11 or something similar on it. You can find drivers. Believe it or not, one of the reat things about an open source community is that somebody got bored and made DVD drivers and software that run in some really old OS. That system has a NVidia TNT2 video card and 512 Meg of RAM. You have to look but people have written mods so win 3.11 will take advantage of all of it. If you get bored and need something to do with old computer parts, it's a fun project.

Desktop: Windows 7 RC also has Ubuntu 9.04. I am pretty sure I will buy Windows 7 when it comes out. So far, I like it a lot.

Laptop: Vista (I actually just gave this one to my fiance b/c I just got a netbook).

Netbook(mini 10): Ubuntu Remix. It took me about a whole day to get this thing all configured and working for my needs. It paid off, I love it now.

I recently set up an external hard drive and printer on the network in my house... it is really really awesome!

This goes without saying that my old computers when to my parents place. They have 2 pretty good comps and 2 mediocre olders ones. I got my dad a 1Tb external hard drive for fathers day and set it up on his network. We are in the process of putting all the old pictures, music and documents on it. I burned him a copy of Windows 7 RC and Ubuntu 9.04 so he can play around with them.

Well I can add one more now. I just installed Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS on an old Dell Latitude CP. It has a Pentium I chip with MMX technology, runs at 233 Mhz and has a whopping 128 MB of Ram (I splurged and maxed that out).

I'm using it as a portable demonstration platform for the Linux SIG which right now is doing a series on Ubuntu Server. It's a lot easier than carrying a desktop (and keyboard and mouse.. etc.) down the stairs into the computer lab each meeting.

Be cooler if it had a wireless connection so I could put it anywhere ;)

The Asus is 6 months old and was to be my main pc. The Omnibook is my old main laptop, kept as a backup.

The Acer I bought in order to play around with different Linux distro's. However it has proved it's self so useful that it is now my main computer. I even use it for work. UNR is fantastic and apart from installing the back port for the kernel, in order to get the led working on the wifi. I'm using it as installed. I do use the classic desktop instead of the netbook one.

I also use a 3G usb dongle for when I'm away from a Internet connection.

I have two computers. This laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545 dual-booted with kubuntu/vista. And upstairs a 10 year old IBM aptiva dual booted with icebuntu and XP.

In the house altogether at the moment though there are 3 people and 5 computers including me and mine. A mac (mac OS), 3 dell lap tops (Ubuntu, XP), and that 10 year old Aptiva I mentioned.
A robber would be very excited and then dissapointed to find that only one of the computers is worth any money.

Another aspire one with a broken screen (plugged in to an external monitor). This serves 2 purposes. I like to break it, just to see if I can fix it. But when it is operational it lives in the bedroom where it is used to view videos (from the aforementioned server).

Oh ....... they all run Ubuntu 9.04 btw except my netbook which dual boots. Sometimes zenwalk, sometimes slackware .. moblin, fedora even arch...who knows what might be on that partition?

But when I get it back I think I'm going to get rid of XP on the one hard drive and but Ubuntu minimal and build my own set-up and then put Arch on the other or Slackware or whatever else I want to try out.

Well, my plans for the server are currently KAPUT! One of the kids spilled water on the laptop so now I have to look at taking what I was going to set up as a server and replace the laptop with that until I can get another laptop or get this one going again.

4-5 seems like the most common answer. Is this because no-one's quite geeky enough to own up to the 7 or 8 they have?

My difficulty starts with: What is a computer. I have a desktop PC for 3 of the 4 people in my house. My wife has a laptop. Then there's the Ubuntu server in the roofspace.

Now, do we count the Media player? Not really a "computer" but it's running embedded Linux. If we count that, do we count the thin client I use when I'm down in the garage? It runs Linux, but it's really only a terminal.

How about the PDAs? I used to say "if it ain't programmable, it ain't a computer." That doesn't work any more, as I can write Java on my phone!

The washing machine is probably our most technologically advanced home appliance. I'm quite confident that there's a hint of Linux in there, too!

I have two computers.

My main programming computer is an AMD 64 X4200 w/ 2 gigs ram. Used mainly for web development so its absolutely great for this. It runs Kubuntu 9.10.

My second computer is a Dell Inspiron 530S slim tower, 2 gigs ram and has a decent 512MB video card, used mainly for light gaming ( Popcap ), photoshop and other media purposes. It has Vista.
