Just saying thanks to your sticky 'Graphics Resolution- Upgrade /Blank Screen after reboot' - was mucking around with installing Ubuntu and/or Xubuntu on my new laptop with a Nvidia 580m in it, all day, until I found your post, and presto solved the problem.
I hadn't figured out just how to answer back on your last message but I have a question. Did you see Phil's post about an hour ago? He posted a log that states, very clearly for a log, that his driver isn't the right one for his card. I'm not sure but I think he's on 270, not sure about what he's done lately. I don't see that he has done what you asked yet so I don't want to answer him that he should change his driver. I also see in his x log that his build kernel isn't the same as he is running. nVidia says his card should be using the 180.29 driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d...32_180.29.html .
I'm not quite sure where to take him but it looks like your last post got him to look at a log that is helpful possibly. If you don't have time, nudge me in the right direction and I'll help him but as they say, you are the man.
Many people in here find graphics the most difficult area in Ubuntu. Thanks for helping!
Thanks for your time trying to help me get 11.04 working anyway! I ended up going back to 10.10 (and got my CD working so I don't need any help with USB install anyway).
