Salocin Linux, the new distro on the debian block?

A new distro - Salocin Linux - has emerged on the scene. It is based on Debian (as seen by the first two alphas). I am wondering if anyone has triend it yet, and if so, what they thought of it. I wish I could try it, but you need a DVD to use it, and my DVD burner is attached to a crashed computer right now (not knowing if it will burn still).

That page hasn't been updated yet. It was origionally going to be slackware based, but it was decided that slackware wasn't user-friendly enough, so the next thing in line was Debian.

I'm always sceptical about new distributions. What is this distro's mission? What user does it want to appeal to that isn't covered by any other distribution? Or is it just another set of defaults that could have been added to another mayor distribution without the added confusion?

The mission is to provide a distrobution that is usable by powerusers, Home/Office (or standard) users, as well as Server use.

I haven't tried it yet (need a DVD) but if I can put all the items on my HD, I should be able to run it through grub.

Re: Salocin Linux, the new distro on the debian block?

There is a bug in the alpha releases that prevents it from being used as a VM. The stable release has no GCC, and thus has no programs.
