Any Chance ESM Will Be Extended For Ubuntu 14 Beyond 2024?

I have an older machine, which requires Nvidia driver 304 to work. Also, 32 bit works best on it. also, Ubuntu 14 does not have systemd. I can get Ubuntu 16 to work, but it is slower and tends to rev the CPU, which on a 14 year old machine is not desirable. Ubuntu 14 just boots faster and runs better than anything else, and also looks great. I have ESM set up, and it's good until April. I would keep Ubuntu 14 going if ESM were extended. I sort of recall hearing a rumour that ESM might be extended. I am hoping it is, because in my opinion it is the best Ubuntu ever. Or at least, my personal favourite.

14.04 goes end of life in 2024 per the release schedule:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

ESR goes up to 10 years, but it appears 5 of those are because of LTS support. 14.04 was released in April 2014. End of regular support occurred in April 2019. I doubt it will be expended past the end of life date that is already set.

Thank you Charles. I guess if it's going to happen, we'll hear about it in the next 6 months or so. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Many things are possible: If a customer wants to hand over a lot of money to Canonical, a way to extend their 14.04 systems could happen.

However, such a wealthy customer is as yet unknown. And the value of doing such a project (instead of migrating to a newer release) seems dubious.

And Canonical has never extended ESM for previous releases.

So the outcome you hope for seems doubtful. Time to start planning an alternative.
