Question Cannot control volume or add volume control button

Today, I installed Lubuntu 16.04 64-bit onto an old Asus X501U.

The audio didn't work until I installed pavucontrol (Pulse Audio Volume Control). Now, the audio works.

However, the keyboard hardware volume buttons don't work, nor is there a volume control button on the panel.

So I cannot raise, lower or mute the volume.

    • Indicator applets settings > Sound Menu — it makes no difference whether this is checked or unchecked.
    • Add/Remove Panel Items > Panel Applets > Add > Volume Control > Add — this is ignored and makes no difference.

The computer previously had Ubuntu 16.04 (64-bit), and all the volume controls worked, so I know that the hardware is fine.

I'm stumped. Can you help me please to add the volume control and, if possible, get the keyboard hardware keys working?

    Thank you

Re: Cannot control volume or add volume control button

Um… I rebooted the computer and now I can add a working Volume Control to the panel!

So, that's a big problem solved. Whew!

It would be nice, though not vital, to get the keyboard volume buttons working, if that's possible?
