Kubuntu LiveCD reinstall?

Hello, everyone. I was wondering if there was any way to reinstall a Kubuntu installation from a LiveCD without formatting the EXT4 partition I have installed for Kubuntu. I specifically remember being able to do so in a previous version (I'm afraid I cannot remember which one), so I would like to know if it's possible here.

The problem I'm trying to fix, specifically, is a problem with the log in screen, where I enter my password, followed by Kubuntu immediately hanging during sign-in. The mouse is still movable, but the desktop doesn't load.

On the installer when you get to selecting the disk layout you should be able to select the existing partition and tell it to use the partition without formatting. However I would HIGHLY recommend you backup all your data just to be safe.
