I had a thermal efficiency survey done on my house, and I think the guy's camera is old, because he has sent me the thermal images (photos) in the .img format. He sent me some software called IMGsee, which is supposed to open .img photos and be able to edit them and save them as jpegs, but apparently it only works with older versions of Windows. I have Ubuntu 10 on this laptop and Windows 7 on the other one. The IMGsee software doesn't seem to work in Windows 7 or in Wine. Gimp can't open the photos, and I can't find anything on the internet. All I get is information about ISO image files (i.e. NOT photos) being burnt to CDs, etc. Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to have a word with the guy about this. He should get a newer camera and make photos available to customers in a usable format.

The img extension is mostly used for images of disks (cd, floppy, etc...)

For windows, there are a few programs, that could open this file type, see:

PS. Would it be possible to attach a sample of such a file? I'm just curious

XnView claims it can read *.img files, I never got it to work in gnome, but it works in a full KDE setup.

XnView, IrfanView, AutoCad, ... they are all listed in the link I mentioned above...

Yet still "img" is so generic, I'm sure 1000 programs say they can open it (their own version).

I know this is off topic, but how much did that survey cost you? I am curious because I have access to a thermal imaging camera from work.

Hm ... due to the fact, that img is also CAD related, maybe it is actually a 3D view of the rooms, with hotspots in red, cold spots marked blue ... etc ... just guessing

PS. Running that imgsee software in a virtual machine would do the trick

Yes, that is where I got my information about XnView, I was just letting the O/P understand there is a *nix version that works with KDE.

It's a guy from the Navitron forum who does it cheaper than normal at £100.

I'll attach one of the photos to this post.

Just tried XnView, but their site may be down, as it doesn't load on either laptop. Times out after a while.

Downloaded Irfanview. Tried to open a photo, but it says file format not recognised.

Getting demoralised...
