Open Source and Open Standards under Threat in Europe

Apologies if this has already been posted...

I went and read the article and ran into two of my pet peeves. 1) they implore you to write to the board of commissioners and give you NO address -- no clue. 2) wnen I tried to register to comment they made the "encoded" words so impossible to read that I simply clicked away.

Still, here I sit watching our country debate of changes to broadband. It also has a chilling effect.

And, still, thank you for telling about it.

Open Source isn't only under attack in Europe, it's under attack in the United States as well. Our government is trying to make up a law that makes open source = piracy.

Worse than that, the US is at the brink of labeling open-source as terrorism.

This is very embarrassing. So, it's saying, "We won't be having Linux in the near future."

How is "Open Source" piracy? And, how is it terrorism?

I doubt the FSF & such will lay down without a damn good fight.

I don't think such a law will make it through really.

Hmm. Actually, how is open source "Piracy" or "Terrorism"? I am really confused.

A part of terrorism is designed to cause extreme disruptions in the economy. Open Source getting larger and more popularity means the corporations of this country start losing money and in essence can start going out of business causing so called "economic" disruption, hence an act of terrorism.

At least that's how it seems to be.

Thumbs down Re: Open Source and Open Standards under Threat in Europe

If Free and Open Source Software is piracy/terrorism,then the entire Internet population and governments departments/educations/nonprofit-organizations/companies etc who are using FOSS,are also copyright infringements/terrorists.

If they are lobbying the government officials, they can get away with anything sadly.

And as it stands, it seems to only be in Europe and the United States at the time that this open source piracy may occur, not the entire world.
