Angry USB sticks inaccessible after upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic

    Hello all,

My first post here, and I'm a complete newbie to any and all flavours of Linux, so would anyone kind enough to respond also be kind enough to stick (mostly) to words of one syllable!

A few months ago I installed Jaunty Jackalope on my PC alongside a working WinXP installation. Everything worked pretty much out of the box. But now that I've upgraded to Karmic Koala, Ubuntu refuses to see any USB stick or external USB hard drive that I connect to the machine. Jaunty would automatically launch a Nautilus window when it detected any such device; Karmic does nothing.

    Can anyone help?
