Linux_Lurker:
Are you testing the 64 bit or 32 bit version of Ubuntu 10.10?
I tested the 32 bit version alpha 3 Live-CD and it booted just fine for me.
I never tried to install it though.
My problem with recent daily builds has been after an install to my
hard-drive then it wouldn't boot.
I need the 64 bit version, I have some code that I can only test on Windows Server 2008, which is 64-bit only, and AMD-V support is disabled on this laptop, which means I need 64 bit Linux. I haven't tried the 32 bit.
I don't know if it would help you, but you might try the full install DVD for 10.10.
It's a really hefty download though--- 4.7 gig!
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/1...-dvd-amd64.iso
used fresh instal, and works perfectly - everything - cpu freq scaling, battery, fans, wireless, graphics, sound, hibernate
no grub arguments needed either
All bleeding stops, one way or another.
Yes current Ubuntu 10.10 seems stable.
I have had problems with the policykit app. not closing properly at shutdown or logout requiring a force quit.
Confirmed. Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 64 WORKS on an L505D. The Ubuntu Team still has some work to do, though. Happy with it overall.
Using Ubuntu 10.10 (full update as of today, Sept 3 2010) seems really stable and boots without any major errors. Looks like 10.10 will work just fine on these laptops.
Edit:
10.10 beta is out you can get it here:

You will probably want the Desktop CD.
I have not tried it so I make no promises.
