I've seen a "Members List" link on almost every vBulletin forum I've been on, so I always assumed it was a default feature. Was it originally there but taken down as the member count grew?

+2 (your assuming that spam may be the only motive??)lisati
+1 on the privacy concerns. I get enough spam as it is, and the occasional spam from someone with a mailing list based on email addresses that have been harvested from the forums and/or launchpad.
I would suggest the forum deny the release of forum members names, based on the number of individuals and organizations that may find that information (shall we say) beneficial.

Firstly this forum is NOT Ubuntu. This forum provides support for the ubuntu community.
Under the Users setting console thingy there is an option to disable if your online status is even visible so this although the most accurate you are going to get isn't very accurate.
I am even questioning the validity of this request I personally would not like my information just given to a PHD student.
Just my 2cents. (Even if the administrators have the power to give this info I would request they don't)
As mentioned above - I haven't seen any list for this (not even in the admin options I have access to).
With regards to email addresses being harvested from the forums, you don't have to have your email address public. If you set this option only staff are able to view it, though 99.99% of the time we never need to access the page that would show it.
You could just write a script that queries the active member list every 5 minutes or whatever and then add the names you don't have already to a list. If you run it for about a week, you could actually get a much more accurate idea of forum activity than just the all time members list.
http://ubuntuforums.org/memberlist.php?
unfortunately the administrators have disabled it.
edit: they censored my link? hmm interesting
the php flag(or whatever) was grabbed from the vbulletin community board and tried it here
See screenshot(and no I will not provide the full link )

the OP doesn't seem to be to forth coming with any of his personal info, so why should the forums supply the members persoanl info to him.
I would like to thank U.G. for disabling this list.
