    compiz and gedit problems

Whenever I open gedit my system locks up and my windows and desktop are drawn incorrectly. I am then forced to go into terminal and kill gedit with htop and reload the window manager, or to shutdown my computer altogether.
However, when I switch my window manager from compiz to metacity it works. It also works properly if I run gedit as root.

Any tips? I'm new to using linux and have no idea whats going on. Its frustrating to have to turn off compiz everytime I want to view a .txt file.

    Re: compiz and gedit problems

Well, I have the same problems with my Ubuntu 8.10. Gedit is freezing for some seconds whenever I open a file, or when I switch desktops. But it works fine if I open it from a terminal, leave it open, and double-click a file in nautilus.

I solved my problem just by using another editor: Geany.
