Ubuntu 9.04 upgrade screen resolution problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Ubuntu 8.10. I am using a 9.04 cd to mess around with it without installing, and I can not get my resolutions to fill the whole screen. Only the highest... 1650x1050 will take up the full screen. Does anyone know how to fix this before I upgrade to 9.04?

    Thx

I believe with with laptops the screen is made for an ideal resolution size , though I can change mine also have 1525N but haven't upgraded
