    Graphics driver disaster

My dad's ubuntu box (7.04) had no graphics card. I installed a 8600gt in it and upgraded to 8.04 because the 180 nvidia drivers kept complaining of kernel headers.

Now I cant get the drivers working. How can I completely uninstall all nvidia drivers?

Whenever I try and check a driver to use in the "Hardware Drivers" section, they never activate.

Is your monitor connected to the add-on graphic card, nvidia? Make sure you go into the BIOS and turn off the onboard integrated graphic controller.
In the world of Linux, who needs Windows and Gates...

Got most of my golden beans at an auction on eBay (with a couple of free drinks).
