    ad-hoc network

    > i want to create a ad-hoc network. ie i want to use my laptop as the wifi router so that i can use it to connect to my wifi enabled mobile phone.

now the problem is that whenever i click on create a new wireless network just gives error that it has no network connection and then the cross mark appears on the networking icon in the panel.

    what is wrong here?

    is this a known issue?

i tried via a live cd of ubuntu 8.10 on a sony vaio vz series laptop.

    Re: ad-hoc network

You may get better help by posting some of the info about your hardware and internet connection. How about the outputs of the following (sorry CLI again):
    ifconfig
    sudo lshw -C network
