Is it a decent distro?
I can't help but correct you on this, but it's called "Mandriva", not "Mandriver". It's bugging me seeing that :\ (OCD's got the best of me)
As for the OS, I have no clue.
What one person considers a "decent" distro another may not care for. The best way to decide if you want to use a distro is to try it in Virtualbox. If you like what you see then install it to HDD and use.
My bad. I'm too tired to read what I type.
Mandriver does sound odd though.
OP must be from one of those New England-y states which don't know how to properly pronounce their As and Rs. Ah well...
Have you ever found something in the second-to-last place you looked?
If it seems like I am ignoring you, perhaps I am.

In some ways I find Mandriva better then Ubuntu, in hardware detection and tools.
But it has less software available for it. And you have to add a ton of PLF repos to it. And their software installer is not as good as apt is.

remember kiddies: sudo rm -rf= BAD!, if someone tells you to do this, please ignore them unless YOU WANT YOUR SYSTEM WIPED
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE TRUE MAN DRIVER
Let's not say Mandriver again. It sounds dirty.
