    Non system disk or disk error

    Hi guys, recently I tried to install ubuntu 12.04 on my HP mini 5103 by completely wiping out the entire disk. Now it cant boot and keeping throwing at me the above message and my no disk displayed in the bios menu. Please help.

    Have you tried starting your computer with the Ubuntu live cd and then using Gparted to setup to format the disk and setup the partition table.
    Six Saturdays a week for me.

    If you don't see disks in the BIOS, your hardware is broken. I would try to re-seat the hard disk or, if your level of confidence is the same as mine with regards to laptops, take it a shop to get fixed.
    If you don't make backups of your important data, your data is obviously not important to you.

    Just realized ubunt installed on the flash coz i put it back and it booted successfully and also I can see my hard drive in the ubuntu environment (though not visible in the bios menu i wonder)
    How can i install it on the hard disk and not the flash drive.

    In the partitioning dialogue select "Something else" and either select existing partitions on your hdd or create new partitions.

    You can mark your thread as solved using the thread tools just above the first post in this thread.

    Still curious why your bios does not see your disk
    If you don't make backups of your important data, your data is obviously not important to you.
