  1. [ubuntu] Re: unrar Error unknown option? please help ASAP

OK, this thread is heaps old, but here's the solution.

    rar a archiveName.rar pathToFolder

The key is that rar doesn't take "a" as a standard flag. ("-a" causes an error, "a" is fine).
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Brasero not working in Karmic: getting size loop

Quick question: When you're having these issues with brasero, did you have multiple users logged in?

I think the root of my problem is that when two users are logged in, and i insert media, both...

[ubuntu] Re: Shutdown System Policy Question

She's not particularly computer savvy, so the idea of going into terminal scares her. I could set up something like that, but I deliberately left her out of he sudoer's group, as

[ubuntu] Re: Shutdown System Policy Question

It's not a matter of knowing which users are logged in, so much as ordinary users cannot shut down the computer without knowing the administrators password.

There seems to be a number of things that VLC just plain doesn't want to open (let alone play or resize). I'm thinking I've got to get a new video card at some point anyway...

    Hopefully a new card...

  9. [ubuntu] Re: Toten, Mplayer, VLC all crash/close on video resize

Has no-one got any insight into this?

I don't really want to have to go buy a new card, especially if it isn't a limitation of the hardware.
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Toten, Mplayer, VLC all crash/close on video resize

this seems to be indicating that my video card is running out of memory, but... well I just don't see how that's possible. 128mb should be more than enough.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Toten, Mplayer, VLC all crash/close on video resize

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
    (Details: serial 114...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Toten, Mplayer, VLC all crash/close on video resize

    Any ideas?

it's really annoying to have to boot to windows just to watch a movie.
  13. [ubuntu] Totem, Mplayer, VLC all crash/close on video resize

OK, so to put it simply:

I installed hardy (x64) and am running twin view on an Nvidia 6600GT

I went to watch a movie in totem, and was prompted to install the appropriate codecs (which I did)....
