When I look at availible networks, mine is always the strongest. Besides, this has happened when it was in the same room as the silly router, five feet away...
If you do switch over, just be aware that ssb needs to be loaded after ndiswrapper. If you don't have a Broadcom ethernet card (the wired one), you should be able to just blacklist b43 and ssb. Check with lsmod|grep ssb before blacklisting to make sure that nothing else is using it.

To contradict what Apipote said, this procedure does *not* work with broadcom 4311 Rev 2. I just tried it, didn't work. Sorry.

    bcardarella and Apipote-
bcardarella is correct. The 4311 rev 02 and 4312 rev 02 cards to not work on Hardy. There was a patch attempted right before the release, but they broke other cards so the patch was backed out.

NDISwrapper is the way to go. Here is a link that might help. The post was created by someone who as the same wireless card as yours.

What does ifconfig show? It might be possible that yours could be eth1.

    You might try
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
I think that might be the auto-remove feature of aptitude. Let me know if that resolves the problem.

    Good guide!
    Code:
    ifup wlan0
didn't work for me, so I had to
    Code:
    sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
    and it came right up.

    Here's the hardware:
    Code:
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)
Its a dynex pcmcia card i bought about a year ago.
