In the repository there seem to be two Kolour Paints, one of which denotes itself as KDE 4... I run Xfce, does this mean anything to me? And which one should I get?

I'd get the not-kde4 version, or if you're looking to avoid kde libs, another paint program.

Way Too Much Ubuntu
While I'm all for avoiding KDE, I haven't seen another paint program with a similar layout. So yea, I'm pretty well stuck with this.
