    Portal/HL2 and Intel 945g

Has anyone had any success running Source engine games mainly Portal or Half-Life 2 under Wine with this video chipset?

I'm getting the "You need atleast Direct X 8.0" error. I've tried ALL the resolutions offered to fix this, but im slowly losing hope. Has anyone had any luck out there?

I really don't want to dual boot windows on my laptop /sigh

Just to list the things i've tried.

    1. running game with -dxlevel 80
    2. Turned pixed shaders on/off in winecfg
    3. tried setting game to run with win98/xp support in winecfg
    4. check to ensure direct rendering was on.
    5. try running in windowed and fullscreen mode.
    6. enabled disabled intro movies.
    7. updated to latest version of wine
    8. tried running with steam and non-steam version of portal.

I remember for the longest time, Valve was unable to support Intel video chipsets. It looks like it can work some of the time.

Also, I don't think Linux has a "good" driver for the Intel chipsets. I may be wrong on that, though.

yeah I figured as much. If the game doesn't really support it, I doubt wine will work properly with it. I guess ill just have to wait until i have a REAL laptop

    thanks
