I'm not sure how far I'm able to pull this. But I actually had a Debian Sarge server, with VHCS2 installed through apt-get from repository
    deb http://apt.scunc.org/ sarge main
    It was working fine.

Today I simply changed the sources in /etc/apt/sources.list to the Ubuntu Breezy sources, and did a dist-upgrade. Things seem to be working good so far. The only thing that changed was php.ini which is now reporting all errors to the screen. I'm surprised that this was such an easy upgrade, considering the change to GCC4, etc. I was expecting alot more trouble.

One thing I noticed however, is that I'm still on kernel 2.4.27-2-686. Don't know why that is, considering I did a dist-upgrade with the Ubuntu sources.

I'll post any problems to this thread, if/when I discover any. This will be my new production server, so I am a bit anxious, but I'd really like to run Ubuntu instead of Debian, and I think it's really nice to use repositories. I'll keep with this for a few weeks, and if it works, I'll transfer my stuff to this server. If anyone has any major warnings about doing this, please let me know

Re: HOWTO: install VHCS on ubuntu (SERVER)

Only issue I have so far, is that VHCS doesn't configure the DNS (bind9) for me. It seems as if the VHCS installation only supports one nameserver on one server. However, most domain names requires at least two nameservers in the zonefile.

How do most people resolve this issue? As far as I'm concerned this is a crucial feature of any virtual hosting control panel, and there must be some way of easily rectifying this for all the people using VHCS.

Any suggestions on how you have solved this is appreciated!

That link doesn't say anything about setting up two nameservers, does it?

Re: HOWTO: install VHCS on ubuntu (SERVER)

Installation went great and I have created a reseller and a user account to go with it. Problem is, whenever I surf to the domain the /usr/www/ files show up rather than the virtual site, giving access to all the installed files for VHCS.

This happens if I simply go to the initial startup page of http://localhost/vhcs2 as well

    Any way to overcome this?

    Never Mind. I found my mistake. I skipped a step to append to the httpd.conf file {Include /etc/apache2/sites-available/vhcs2.conf}
Once I did this, all my sites started with the VHCS login screen.

I'm having an issue regarding updating users. I edited a user today to increase the number of Dbs allowed on the account. Now the user appears to be in permanent 'waiting to be updated' stage. Any ideas on this? During this time I am unable to login as this user.

Vhcs daemon wasnt running apparently, try running /var/www/vhcs2/engine/vhcs2-rqst-mngr
    if that worked, then run
    update-rc.d vhcs2_daemon defaults
