Why are you fixated on having GParted read it?
RE: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2411556
TheFu, 1fallen, I and many ohter here answered many questions on how to look up information of attached storage devices. We also use command line tools to do that. There is many thread here of people asking why information cannot be read from GUI disk tools, such as Gnome Disks or GParted....
For instance, if you use GPatrted from an Installer LiveUSB, it has more options installed as default then when you install it in a distro, because in a distro, all the individual file systems and drivers need to be installed to the OS.
vfat and FAT32 may seem to be fairly basic. The utilities to work with FAT filesystems are from the dosfstools package, which is not normally a default installed package. I manaully installed it on mine:
Code:
mafoelffen@Mikes-B460M:~$ apt list *fs*tools --installed
Listing... Done
dosfstools/jammy,now 4.2-1build3 amd64 [installed,automatic]
f2fs-tools/jammy,now 1.14.0-2build1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
guestfs-tools/jammy,now 1.46.1-4ubuntu2 amd64 [installed,automatic]
initramfs-tools/now 0.140ubuntu13.2 all [installed,upgradable to: 0.140ubuntu13.4]
libguestfs-tools/jammy,now 1:1.46.2-10ubuntu3 amd64 [installed]
squashfs-tools/jammy,now 1:4.5-3build1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
If you start GParted, and for a volume, right click and select format, then type... All the options that are grayed out, have missing filesystem 'pieces' that are not installed yet. Once they are installed, then those options are then enabled & selectable.
Does that answer your question on GParted?
