Totem Movie Player doesn't play all video formats and freezes up my pc with some formats.
VLC plays better than Totem Movie Player.
Interested if there are other Movie Players that work/play better?

They're all pretty much the same. Codecs matter a lot more than the software using them.
VLC is usually considered the top on most OSs. It will play everything I want, and have not needed to try any others. The only thing it does not do well yet, is casting to chromecast, especially if not right video format. For casting I use Videostream on chrome, about the best casting program, will cast almost any video format to chromecast without any problems of over working laptop.
I rather like mpv. It doesn't really have a GUI, just a window with the video in it - use keyboard controls to pause, step etc.
It seems to handle many formats very well, but the interface may not be to your liking.
SMPlayer

Been playing around with SMPlayer and it's nice.
Thanks

SMPlayer is working fine in case of me since I'm using Ubuntu.
I have tried just about everything, certainly all mentioned here so far but always seem to come back to vlc.
I like its plain, simple but configurable interface, and it never seems to let me down, playing anything I chuck at it.
I'm aware some users seem to have had problems with it recently but that has not been my experience.
