I was updating some packages and installing wine and after I restarted my machine now boots into this login screen:

I am on mobile right now so cannot load a photo but will try to boot into a live disk and update this question when I have a chance.

To describe it it is a grey and blue is theme with a swirl logo and a plain grey login box right in the center, up top right hand corner is a menu option with a "default session" chosen.

I have never seen this login screen before I used to get the regular Ubuntu login screen. When I try and type my username and password in it just goes black a bunch of text shows then brings me back to login.

Not really sure what to do and have tried what I could find from SO. I do have access to the command line through Ctrl Alt f3.

I am running Ubuntu 16.10
