The only proprietary drivers I am aware of that are referred to by the 'Additional Drivers' tool are for Broadcom. You have and need none.
I am still trying to work out another try at a solution. I hope to have an answer this evening.
Edit: I have been trying to compile the backports package in order to get a possibly better rtl8192ce but have run into a roadblock. Please see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1342703
