LOL. No. You're not going to trick the NSA by using Linux. If the NSA wants it, they've already got it.
I do agree to look for a firmware update, always a good idea with a new device.
If you wipe the drive by writing zeros or random data over the entire drive once, that will be more than sufficient to trust the computer.
