Replacing SATA HDD for a SSD

I would like to replace my SATA HDD(top) for a SSD(bottom). As it stands I only use the connectors on the right for the SATA drive but what are the connectors on the left used for. Thanks

On the HDD, there is two plugs, one for power, and the other for a sata cable. Some computers like laptops use an adapter so you don't need both cables, but both of those drives should use the same cables. I don't quite understand what you are asking though.
