Unhappy BCM4312 not able to discover WPA2 networks

    Hello guys,

    I installed Xubuntu

    Code:
    $ lsb_release -a
    No LSB modules are available.
    Distributor ID: Ubuntu
    Description: Ubuntu 13.10
    Release: 13.10
    Codename: saucy
on a Compaq Mini CQ10-110 and at the beginning the Wireless adapter (Broadcom 4312) wasn't recognized. I got it working following these steps (I also applied this) but it only recognizes WEP and WPAv1 networks. I spent hours on Google looking for other possible solutions: I found many people getting the wlan (WPA2) disconnected after a few seconds but nobody that couldn't list them at all...

    Any hint?

    Thanks in advance!

Re: BCM4312 not able to discover WPA2 networks

Welcome to the forums mirko-grewing !

Not sure how you got it working by following the first link, because it doesn't suggest what BCM4312 requires. This chip requires Low Power (LP) firmware, which you must have installed somehow if you ever got it working. But just to be extra sure, please do (while being connected to internet via cable) -
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
    Then reboot or do -
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -rv b43
    sudo modprobe -v b43
Any improvement ? To be honest, I'm not expecting any, because there seems to be a bug appeared with this LP chip lately.

So if you still can't detect your access point, try connecting to a "Hidden Network", pointing it to your access point. If that succeeds, we may have a workaround for the time being to make it detect all available networks.

Also, it may help a lot if you post a detailed diagnostics report of your wifi setup. To post such a report, please follow the "Wireless Script" link in my signature, download and run the script as per instructions there, and post back the report it generates.

Re: BCM4312 not able to discover WPA2 networks

    Please try -
    Code:
    sed -i 's/^exit 0/iwlist wlan0 scan\n&/' /etc/rc.local
This will insert a line "iwlist wlan0 scan" in your /etc/rc.local file, thus forcing a wireless scanning at boot time. You can also insert the line using your text editor (opened as root), just make sure the last line remains "exit 0".

    PS:
Please use 'Code' tags for posting outputs, not 'Quote' tags. Follow the "Using Code Tags" link in my signature to see a quick 'How To' with screenshots.

Re: BCM4312 not able to discover WPA2 networks

Thank, I did so... I also trie to run the scan in the terminal and I got:

    Code:
    wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
P.S.: I don't know why but I don't have the "code" tool in the toolbar. I did it manually anyway.

Re: BCM4312 not able to discover WPA2 networks

back in the day (dunno, couple of years ago) and recently i always had a bit of trouble with wpa and b43. now i use the iwl.
here you can find more info
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...Driver/bcm43xx with the bcmwl-kernel-source instructions.

    hope this helps!
