Re: WIFI: Adapter 3945abg on 12.10

Rather than pass suggestions to Wild Man by PM and then have him suggest them to you, why don't I just barge in and help. More heads are better than less.
I think I even erased the Network Manager.
    Let's check that first:
    Code:
    sudo dpkg -s network-manager
If it's installed, you will see OK Installed OK. Otherwise, dpkg-query: package 'network-manager' is not installed and no information is available.

How we get your wireless going will differ between the two answers.

    Does your interface scan?
    Code:
    sudo rfkill unblock all
    sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
If there are errors or warnings, we need to see what they are in order to proceed.

Description: network management framework (daemon and userspace tools)
NetworkManager is a system network service that manages your network devices
and connections, attempting to keep active network connectivity when
available. It manages ethernet, WiFi, mobile broadband (WWAN), and PPPoE
devices, and provides VPN integration with a variety of different VPN
    services.
    .
This package provides the userspace daemons and a command line interface to
    interact with NetworkManager.
    .
    Optional dependencies:
    * ppp: Required for establishing dial-up connections (e.g. via GSM).
    * avahi-autoipd: Used for IPv4LL, a protocol for automatic Link-Local IP
    address configuration.
    Homepage: http://www.gnome.org/projects/NetworkManager/

    [sudo] password for sugardaddy:

    sugardaddy@MiniMe:~$ sudo dpkg -s network-manager
    [sudo] password for sugardaddy:
    Package: network-manager
    Status: deinstall ok config-files
I believe that means the package network-manager is removed and the configuration files were not removed. I think the package being removed is confirmed by the absence of any reply to nm-tool. Now let's see:
    Code:
    sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
    ifconfig
    iwconfig
Again, we may see errors or warnings which help us.

Re: WIFI: Adapter 3945abg on 12.10

Now we see wlan0 as UP in ifconfig. Did the rfkill command solve the soft-blocked issue?
    Code:
    sudo rfkill unblock all
    rfkill list all
If so, now it should scan:
    Code:
    sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
If not, we wonder if there are messages in the logs about this peculiar little issue:
    Code:
    dmesg | grep iwl
Are you connected by ethernet? How?
