Rather than pass suggestions to Wild Man by PM and then have him suggest them to you, why don't I just barge in and help. More heads are better than less.

I think I even erased the Network Manager.

Let's check that first:

sudo dpkg -s network-manager

If it's installed, you will see OK Installed OK. Otherwise, dpkg-query: package 'network-manager' is not installed and no information is available.

How we get your wireless going will differ between the two answers.

Does your interface scan?

sudo rfkill unblock all
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan

If there are errors or warnings, we need to see what they are in order to proceed.
