    Bi-annual release of 12.04

Hi, Please could someone put me straight on the update setup with 12.04? I downloaded and burned a CD for 12.04 LTS in May 2012. Am I correct in assuming that if I download and burn 12.04 again now, it will be an updated version incorporating all the changes and updates that occurred between April and October? In other words, will it be a 12.10 release of 12.04 LTS? Note that I'm not asking about 12.10 Quantal Quetza here, it's whether there's a 12.10 version of LTS out now that I'd like to know about, since the download pages don't seem to mention anything about such an update.

12.04.1 was released in August which is what you will get if you download. All updates since then will have to be downloaded and installed but 12.04 has five year support instead of two like its predecessors.

The ISO is not continually up dated after release except for major changes like the .1 release. Those who installed prior to that simply get the changes via the update manager.

Ah, right Frogs Hair! Thanks very much! That clarifies it. It's 12.04.1 that I obviously need now. I didn't see any mention of 12.04.1 on the download pages and wanted to be sure I'd be getting the latest rather than just another copy of the original April version. D'you think the download pages p'raps ought to mention that somewhere?

You will see 12.04.1 when the download dialog box opens.

12.04.2 was scheduled for release on January 31st, but it's been delayed for two weeks for extra testing. You may want to wait for that. The iso's are updated for each point release. See here

OK, thanks again Frog Hair, and thanks cariboo.

As 12.04.2 is now so close I'm thinking it does makes more sense to wait a month for it as you suggest.

Then I'll have a completely bug-free installation with no on-line updates needed at all. Right??

Nah, just get 12.04.1 and keep updating into 12.04.2.

I do not think there is such a thing as bug free software.

When they do the freeze on code updates it usually is a week or two before it is available. You will then still have some updates as even after the code freeze some things still pop up.

Yes, OK, Thanks oldfred. I more or less guessed that and the idea of anything being completely bug-free was meant more as a sarcastic joke than serious. Your comment appreciated nevertheless.
