After installation my first step is to check for additional drivers.

Then I run a script that I wrote which installs all the software I need.

Then run grub-customizer, ubuntu-tweak, and ccsm to customize my system to my liking.

Assuming everything went off without a hitch, and internet is running then first, run all updates.

Probably next is installing Chromium or Chrome and setting it to synchronize with my Google account. This gives me bookmarks, extensions and passwords. Then it is a case of logging into my usual places once (Gmail, Ubuntu Forums, Facebook ,etc).

    Install Flash and codecs.

Then I start looking at my additional applications, starting with Dropbox to synchronize my files. Preferably I also have my desktop on the same network so I can run "Sync over Lan" and reduce a 90+ minute ordeal to ~ 20 minutes!

Oh, and I bookmark my usual folders on the LAN.

Then I start adding other programs, depending on my planned use.
