the terminal is where you type in commands. it is similar (but alot more powerful) then the windows dos window

what's the difference between an answer and a solution? An answer is what they want to hear, a solution is what they don't want to hear
Alt-F2, type 'gnome-terminal' and press ENTER. It should open up a command prompt.
Rather than type commands, copy them as you do in Windows by highlighting then CTRL-C. Unlike Windows, to paste into a terminal it's CTRL-SHIFT-V.

WOW! I just can't seem to get the hang of this at all. What is it I'm doing wrong? I copied and pasted that boot repair code and up popped some icon under results and and icon under history. I assumed you would then click on one or the other and this utility would run and I could proceed with the repairs. But no - nothing happens.
Problem solved. Got rid of the USB and created a CD - Formated my HD - Installed from CD and all is well.
Thanks.
Glad to hear it. You can help us by marking the thread SOLVED via the 'Thread Tools' link at the upper right of the first post (it's reversible if necessary).
Marking threads solved allows 'helpers' to focus on unresolved issues and often allows those searching for threads with solutions to find them a bit more easily.
Happy Ubuntu-ing.
