vsftpd / tftp config

My server is set up to allow local users access to their respective home directories.
In addition to this I need to have an anonymous login w/ no password that chroot's to
/home/foobar

I have configured the server to allow anon access w/o passwd.
When I go to log in I get the following error message:

ftp www.foobar.com
Connected to www.foobar.com.
220 (vsFTPd 2.2.0)
Name (www.foobar.com:me): anonymous
500 OOPS: cannot change directory:"/home/foobar"
Login failed.

by default what user does vsftpd use to log in?
my thought is the user does not have the priv to be able to change to that directory, however I blasted the permissions away and was still unable to log in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm pulling my hair out trying to get this resolved.

Anonymous FTP connections use the ftp user, so make sure this user has the correct permissions.

I deleted and re-added the ftp user. and then I added it to the ftp group and changed the permissions to a=wrx and changed the owner and group of that directory to ftp.

I am still getting the 500 error.

any other sugestions?

Hi,

im having problems configuring vsftpd to support my cisco network infrastructure. the thing is that cisco routers and switches do not support authentication requests, they just need a plain ftp with write access to store backup configurations files and IOS images. also i want to be able to restore configs and IOS images but this is not a problem, tha thing is can i implement a vsftpd server on my management segment but with no login requirements? i know this defeats the purpose of a secure ftp but is there a way that i can implement this securely with vsftpd?

would be much appreciated if you can help me with this.
