I put my computer to sleep and now I cannot connect to Wifi

I put my computer into suspend and when I woke up I got a dialogue box in the attachement. I cannot connect to my Wifi, only an unsecure access point somewhere in my hood. My wifi is 64 bit (I think*) ASCII WEP. * My WEP key if 5 characters so I think it's 64 bit encryption.

I can connect to unsecure wireless but not my own!!! I do not see ASCII wep. Before i suspended my Wifi worked fine, and I know it's because of that because this isn't the first time this has happpened...

I have tried that and it still doesn't work, once again I can only connect to unsecure Wifi.

Is that a hint of that underlying attitude that sends a nerve up elitist spines?

Just joking of course. There is room for all of us in here.

Which build are you using? I only have two portables myself that I use very infrequently, so don't have a ton of wireless networking experience. The one laptop I do use occasionally dual boots Ubuntu and FreeBSD. (The other portable is a tablet and semi-locked into XP.)

I've never looked into it much as I rarely use it (IE working while watching TV on the bigscreen), but I did have a few quirks with 8.10's wireless too. 9.04 however, at least in its current form and on this particular hardware, seems to be working much smoother on it. No issues with suspend and encrypted wireless.

I tried a manual IP and it still brings up the same screen, I checked show key and it gave a long number, I went on my other laptop that is working and it's the same key stored there.

Is there a service or something for WEP?

Yea, give 9.04 a spin, should be able to test that functionality just off of a LiveCD. Alpha 6 is out, Beta is due in about two days. See if that cures what ails you. Definitely worth checking anyway, that Jackalope is pretty fast, and even in alpha it's actually quite stable, I'm very impressed with it. Don't have any practical possible fixes for 8.10 myself though, not using it anymore, maybe someone will have better advice in that regard.

If it doesn't do it for you, there's plenty of other quality distros to pick from too of course. No one build will work perfectly for everyone, if you're liking Linux give another one a go. I've typically had good results on the hardware end with openSUSE, PCLinuxOS and Arch myself, but your mileage will vary.

Does wifi work before you put it to sleep?

Try checking "Enable Networking" off and then back on. It should work now.
