Ubuntu will not load until I press and hold Ctrl or Alt

I installed Ubuntu 64 on my laptop (HP dv6650). During the installation sometimes the progress bar would stop, only "progressing" when I hold the Ctrl key. Unfortunately, the same happens while loading Ubuntu after the installation.

Any ideas on why this might be happening?
    Thanks!

Re: Ubuntu will not load until I press and hold Ctrl or Alt

I'm having the same problem with a HP dv6837cl notebook.

Regardless of whether I'm loading ubuntu 8.10 desktop from LiveCD, USB Startup Disk, or actual installation, I have to keep pressing the (left) ctrl key in order for Linux to load.

I do not have this problem with a Dell Latitude D620.

As a result of this problem, I cannot turn on the pc, walk away, and expect to find Linux loaded by the time I've come back.

    Any fix(es) with be appreciated.
