    avi videos

So I just loaded ubuntu onto my computer in place of windows, and I'm having trouble viewing .avi videos. I've loaded some of the codecs and even downloaded VLC and gxine media players. The video plays, however the aspect ratio of the picture is wayyyyy off. It's as if someone squeezed the video together from either side. I've tried playing with the aspect ratios in both the players but to no avail. Please help!!

Googlemay be your friend with this.

Have you enabled the medibuntu repo?

Does this happen when playing a DVD?

What about other containers .mkv .mov etc?
