In windows there is a file called "index, dat" this holds tracking and persistant cookies, i clean them out with Ccleaner after each session,
Is there a file in Ubuntu that contains these cookies?,any advice would be much appreciated.

You can accomplish the same thing in Firefox under: edit>preferences>privacy. Tick: always clear private data when I close Firefox. Press: settings and choose what you want to clear when you close Firefox.
Also, if you wish to remove all cookies from Firefox, once it is open, click Tools->Clear Private Data and check Cookies.

Thanks for the quick replies.
In windows, Firefox can remove all the normal cookies, but cant delete the contents of index.dat as this is a binary file that can only be cleaned out at boot time befor Windows is fully loaded.
I was just thinking, if i visit a site that wants to place a tracking cookie in index.dat, and i am using Ubuntu, where is the tracking cookie placed?.

Try the AdBlock Plus Firefox addon, it may give you some protection. I am not too sure as to how dangerous tracking cookies are for Ubuntu. If I find anything else, I'll post it here. Another addon that might be useful is NoScript. These are my top two security addons.
