There is actually a plugin in the stock compiz package that allows a keybind for resizing windows. Default is set to alt+f8, but that is a bit unwieldy if you are using a mouse. You can get to all...
I have found that the bottom right corner of the window has a larger area dedicated to this task.
If the Dash closes and the appearance window opens, then it is functioning normally. If you want to return to the system settings menu, the upper left portion of the appearances window has a button...
Use the command:
lspci -v
in a terminal and copy paste all the information for your audio device, please. What you gave us was the driver your system is using.
Should look like:

Not the case. I have run this and several other GUI scripts recently with cron and never needed to do anything with /dev/null or a log file. I'm not sure exactly what is happening, but I'm fairly...
So he did, I must have misread. That's what I get for trying to offer advice a few minutes after I wake up :P
I'll still leave the previous post up for reference, since it is a good cron...
Try turning your line volume all the way up and unmuting it. I'm not certain why alsa has disabled your headphones. It may be that on your card they are considered line out, not headphones.
Can you run alsamixer and post a screenshot of the headphone volume control?
In terminal, run:
alsamixer
Make sure the master volume for headphones is turned up.

Actually, the best way to do something like that is to make sure your current system has the most up to date versions of Python and BASH. The OS being in a constant state of flux will almost...
Along with what Derek asked, could you run
ps -ef | grep cron
in a terminal and tell us if you get any output? If there is output, cron is loading fine. If there is NO output, cron isn't loading...
A Bit of Information About Cron:
Cron is a CLI(Command Line Interface) program that runs in the background and executes jobs(commands or scripts) that are stored in a crontab file, which is used...
Try running the script through terminal and post the output you get. Just open a terminal window and input the path to your script:
/home/roger/Pictures/cartoons/farside/changer.sh
If your...
Let me start this by saying I know there are a lot of other sites with guides about cron usage. However, I find that it is always nice when I can search for a guide on a specific topic here and find...
This is exactly what I was going to reply with a bit earlier, but I was pressed for time and couldn't post right away. I was running the script on my test machine which has cron set up with a bit of...
Have a look at the man page for shred too. Some of the options might be just what you want. Specifically the -z option which overwrites the file with zeros after you are done deleting it.
Your script isn't running because of one fatal error lots of people make. The space in the directory name /farside calendar. Terminal commands and shell scripts really hate spaces in directory and...
There is a way to do it using a shell script and a program called cron. It may require you to rename your image files in a manner that will allow the script to pull the name up easily, but it will...
A Unity type interface is "easier" for the touch-interface user group. A hover to expand type interface is easier for the mouse-interface user group. That's not an assumption, its an observation...
I am having some trouble using the "Always on Top" option in 11.10. It works fine as long as I don't click on the window after I set the option, then I can't get focus to move to another window...
I typed that from the viewpoint of some one who used launchers with custom shell scripts to make my desktop run the way that is most efficient for me. It used to be a matter of clicking on the main...
You can add apps by dragging them from the app search menu, accessed through the dash home button. Simply drag them to the bar and drop them in place. You can remove an icon by right clicking on it...
