    I'm pretty sure the uninstalling wine totally (the apt-get stuff) is totally unnecessary. the only things that wine tricks and anything else you did (unless you had to use sudo for it) could mess up...

    x1a4 actually ext3 can be mounted by that fs-driver too, just mounted as ext2 is all. Also , if you set data=journal using tune2fs, it improves performance, and lets e2fsck recover lost data much...

    yeah 7.10 is pretty darn stable. Even 8.04 (which is still in alpha) is stable (less stable than 7.10, more stable than windows vista).
