On further analysis I find that I am unable to even list the files or even copy them back to ubuntu (14.04) from the NAS drive. When I stepping into the bottom most directory and do 'ls -l', I need a...
I had a disk read error at boot time. Per suggestion on a different thread, I booted from a Live USB and moved the data to a NAS drive.
Some of the data are mail files from evolution -- i.e., the...
I was able to move stuff off of the hard disk. Thanks for the suggestions. I have had trouble with some of the email data. I think this is a separate issue, which I will post as a different thread.
If I have email on evolution, would I be able rto get it off when I log in through a live CD? In order to be able to export the email to a transferable form, I need to log in to the hard drive...
Thank you. Will try.
When I am booting into 14.04 I am getting a Add. sense unrecovered read error - auto reallocate failed. Is there a way to get around this problem to boot into the laptop, or do I need to first...
This morning I find that my bootloader is missing.
I tried to use boot-repair, but it did not work. Wanted me to create a small boot partition. I already have two partitions with the bios-grub flag...
I am still hoping for an answer from this forum ..
Thanks.
I installed 12.10 on a new laptop that runs a Ralink 539b network controller. I moved to 12.10 after finding that 12.04 doesn't seem to have any wireless connectivity at all. The new install...

As I mentioned earlier, I reinstalled 12.04.
2 days ago, I had a power outage for several minutes, and the problem re-occurred.
So I tried the suggestion by WinuxUser. This did not work. I then...
I had already reinstalled, but thanks for the suggestion.
I decided to reinstall from scratch as your earlier suggestion about efi did not work. Thanks again for everything.
Will try it. Thanks for all your time/help.
It is not a macbook, but it is a newer motherboard -- about 9 months old. It is a asrock p67 extreme4 that takes in a intel i7 2600k chip.
Here are some additional considerations:
When the live flash drive boots, I see this flash by very fast: error "prefix" is not set.
The GNU GRUB Verison for the flash drive is 1.99-21ubuntu3...
It did not work. The commands did not throw an error, but behavior on reboot is unchanged.
I ran the commands one after the other, by manually typing them, and using a <Return> after each one.
Ii am amenable to suggestion on the stylistic side. But I would also appreciate learning what I did wrong on the substantive side. What could I be missing?

I am not sure what you mean by tags.
I tried what you suggested.
"sudo mount /dev/sda3 /mnt" This command did not work, because the command needed me to provide file system type. And since...
Here is the RESULTS.txt file from running bootinfoscript.
Thanks for the help.
I will go home, try it, and post the output here. But I have another machine that is setup identically, and I have no problem booting into that machine. Thanks for your response.
