Thanks, I'll look into these.
I've got a SSD with Ubuntu 18.04 installed on it currently. I have another drive in another computer that I plan to put into this one.Is there a way, without totally formatting the current drive, to...
Oh, apparently I'm now on 390 - I'd bet that has at least something to do with the performance improvements.
As an update - I've now moved to 18.04. I have to say, performance is *drastically* better.
FPS in Dolphin is considerably higher, no more lag moving between windows. This is a blatant...
Ah, I could have sworn I'd done that. Must not have saved it.
Wasn't panicking. Just documenting as I worked through it. This issue is resolved.
Nouvaeu was actually at least one component of the problem, once I could boot into failsafe and reenable the...
Moving back to nouvaeu drivers lets me log in. Solved.
In the TTY I see nouveau errors. Any way to switch back to proprietary from terminal?
edit: ok, boots in failsafe gfx mode
OK. I apt-get upgraded and the login page now works. But when I log in, the screen goes black and it hangs OR it kicks me back to the login page.
In recovery mode...
OK I can boot in gfx safe mode, and get a TTY. Is there a way to just roll forward to 18.04?
The System Time updated, so it isn't frozen. But no mouse/ keyboard input is taken. When booting upthe arrow keys certainly work - I can hit left/ right to change from bootlogo to whatever you call...
Title is wrong - 17.10 is what I installed.
I ran the 17.10 from 16.04 upgrade last night. Now, when the system boots, it hangs at the login screen. Mouse/keyboard input does nothing.

Well, I'm installing 17.04, since that's at least a stable release. When 18.04 comes out I'll switch to that.
Fingers crossed...
Moving to a beta Ubuntu system has bitten me before, so I'm reluctant to do so.
Switching drivers and restarting did not help.
I think Compiz has, historically, eaten a lot of CPU. In 18.04 I...
Pretty exclusively UI, I'd say. I haven't noticed poor performance for other tasks.
I just used the Additional Drivers utility to install the nvidia drivers. Version 384.111.
Not sure what...
If you have questions, ask them. I'm more than willing to provide information.

To be honest, my expectation is that it's an issue of drivers. Perhaps my old GPU was a better fit for them by virtue of being an older model.
Perhaps I should try the OSS ones.
How helpful.
Any way I can fix performance on my system? I recently upgraded to a new laptop - it's got plenty of hardware.
It feels slower than the last. When playing games on Dolphin, or even just switching...
Yeah the error was unrelated, I had modified that file to and inadvertently broken some other things.
Performance still seems quite weak - I'm thinking it may be due to my wine configuration for...

Hm. Got this error when adding the ppa:
PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list'
So once I figure that out I'll continue.
edit: OK,...
In the 'Additional Drivers' interface I have 352.63 selected, and that's the newest version I see there.
