    Re: December 2008 Screenshot Thread

    OS: Ubuntu 8.10
    WM: gtk/emerald
    Dock: avant-window-navigator
    Theme: Modified Slickness-Black theme
Icons: Combination of black-white_2-Gloss_big, LiNsta3.0, and a few I made or modded myself, like the Fruity Loops icon seen in the dock, the Audacity icon from the Linsta set with the wave color changed to match the rest of the theme. The small winged icon next to Fruity Loops is an icon of the Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist badge, or "Wings" for short. I'm a Petty Officer in the US Navy and that is a qualification I'm working towards right now.
I like the black-white icon set for the most part, but I didn't like the volume slider or the wireless signal icons. The wifi icon I created myself, and the volume icon is from the "hicolor" icon set I think.

I was using screenlets to monitor my system resources, but I switched to using Conky yesterday, as you can see in the bottom left. I'm just learning how to set up Conky, but I like it a lot better because of how configurable it is. It's almost like HTML in it's simplicity.

It's actually two config files because as far as I know there is no way to vertically center text in Conky unless you use a seperate config file and do some tricky gap_y work. As you can see in the config file, the font that displays the month is Avant Garde. I had to do some tricky Googling (hint: use filetype:otf) to find it. The part with all the system stuff is this:
    Code:
    own_window yes
    own_window_type desktop
    own_window_transparent yes
    own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
    double_buffer yes
    use_spacer none
    use_xft yes
    override_utf8_locale yes
    xftfont glisp
    update_interval 1.0
    draw_shades no
    draw_outline no
    draw_borders no
    stippled_borders 0
    border_margin 0
    border_width 0
    default_color c0c0c0
    own_window_transparent yes
    minimum_size 1 1
    maximum_width 1440
    alignment top_left
    #alignment top_right
    alignment bottom_left
    #alignment bottom_right
    gap_x 162
    gap_y 35

and the config that outputs the date:
    Code:
    own_window yes
    own_window_type desktop
    own_window_transparent yes
    own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
    double_buffer yes
    use_spacer none
    use_xft yes
    uppercase yes
    override_utf8_locale yes

    update_interval 1.0
    draw_shades no
    draw_outline no
    draw_borders no

    border_width 0
    default_color c0c0c0
