Question Nautilus won't recognize blank CDs

I'm having the same problem described in this archived post but none of the fixes work.

Nautilus (bracero/kd3/etc) will not recognize blank cds, so I can't burn anything. I can read from disks just fine (play dvds, etc.). It's not the drive because I can burn disks just fine from Mac OS.

It's a real pain! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here. (amd64 Jaunty) If I but a blank disc in the burner it makes some noises like it's trying repeatedly to recognize it and then it gives up.

Edit: I cracked open the machine and swapped out the IDE cable. No help. The drive recognizes some discs, ignores others, and never sees the blanks. I'm going to try swapping out the drive next.

Edit: Swapped out the drive and everything is working again. Bad drive was a Sony that was 13 months old. They just don't make'em like they used to.

I am also having the trouble with a brand new Dell running Karmic. Inserting dvds or CDs works fine and it reads, but it doesn't recognize blank CDs. I notice no one has fixes for this so I assume it's just a user error and I'm doing something wrong, however ubuntu 9.10 did just fine on my older HP machine when it came to burning CDs.
