    Radeon 9600 drivers installation 3d and...

    ok, here we go, i'm new ubuntu user, was using xp for a long time before
    on this os i'm total noob so i need your help

    i want to install drivers for ati radeon 9600 and to check out if 3d is enabled and to use some effects like compiz fusion or beryl (tell me which one is better)
    i'm having hardy heron, and i had a chance to install drivers directly from os, but i foun out that they have some drivers on official site so i downloaded them, please explain me which ones are better and how do i install them so here are my questions on a list
    1. which drivers are beter to install, from ati site or directly from os
    2. how to install better drivers
    3. how to check out if 3d is enabled
    4 which is better compiz fusion or beryl
    5. how do i install compiz or beryl

    It might be best to install through the package manager because when there are kernel updates your video driver should be updated automatically. Exceptions to that would be poor performance or that you need one of the drivers from the ati site and that isn't available though the hardware drivers applet.

    Including your hardware specs in a help request is always a good idea.

    Some people here recommend installing envyng and using that to get your driver installed-I don't use envy but you could try that.

    To see if 3D is working you can open a game that uses 3D or compiz-you can also (from a terminal) type/enter "glxgears".
