    Bittorrent hogs up bandwidth

My download bandwidth is about 860 KB/s. When I have bittorrent downloading at full speed from multiple peers and I download a single file from a high-speed FTP server, the FTP downloads at around 100 KB/s and bittorrent uses the rest of bandwidth, 760 KB/s. So it's not 50-50. Is this normal? On Windows it seems to balance pretty well so that each download runs at about 430 KB/s.

Anyone know why the bandwidth isn't fairly shared between the applications and if there's anything I can do to improve this?

Just cap the upload bandwidth on your torrent client when you want to download using some other protocol. when your only downloading torrents set it to unlimited.
