    pdf to midi sheet music?

Is there any software you guys are aware of that can look at a pdf (ocr?) of piano music and play what it sees in there?

I know there are programs where I can manually put in the notes from the sheet music, but would like a way to take a pdf and have it automatically translate it into an electronic form that can be played and edited.

Never heard of anything like that before.

Though, a quick scan round google found this site: https://audiveris.dev.java.net/

I can't comment on it, other than it's Swing Java and should run on Linux.

rosegarden with the help of lilypond.
It will take a bit of toying with or a fair amount of reading, but it can be done.

tinivole - audiveris runs fine in Linux, but it seems that it can only do ocm on png images. There should be a way to get png files out of the pdf but I'll have to look into that later.

spiderbatdad - I've heard of lilypond and rosegarden before but had no idea that they could do what I was asking about. I might give that a try if I can't get audiveris working.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys!

as I said, it can be done and isn't really too hard...considering I used to do a bit of it; that is converting rg files to pdf and vice versa.

Xane included will save to an image. Gimp can convert any PDF to a PNG. Speaking og Gimp, you can use it to scan directly to a PNG.

That link no longer works. Audiveris has moved to http://audiveris.kenai.com/

Looks promising - I have been looking for something like this for some time, so intend to give it a try.
